DENTURES

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are custom-made to fit your mouth comfortably and securely. Dentures can be either full or partial, depending on the number of teeth you are missing.

  • Full Dentures: Full dentures are used when all of the natural teeth are missing. They consist of a flesh-colored acrylic base that fits over your gums and supports a complete set of artificial teeth.
  • Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. They consist of a metal or acrylic framework that attaches to your existing teeth, with artificial teeth attached to fill in the gaps.

Types of Dentures

  • Conventional Dentures: These dentures are made after all remaining teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. They are typically ready for placement within 8 to 12 weeks after tooth extraction.
  • Immediate Dentures: Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be placed immediately after tooth extraction. While this provides the benefit of not having to go without teeth during the healing period, adjustments may be needed as the gums shrink and heal.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: Implant-supported dentures are anchored in place by dental implants surgically placed into the jawbone. This provides added stability and prevents bone loss in the jaw.

Benefits of Dentures

  • Restoring your ability to chew and speak properly.
  • Improving your facial appearance and smile.
  • Preventing remaining teeth from shifting out of position.
  • Supporting the structure of your lips and cheeks.
  • Boosting your self-confidence and overall quality of life.
